LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif have agreed to rid the constitution of the 17th Amendment and continue the process of dialogue.
This was stated in a joint statement issued on Friday after a meeting between the two leaders ended at the PML-N Chief’s Raiwind residence.
President Zardari and Nawaz Sharif reiterated their commitment to the Charter of Democracy.
They hoped that that the parliamentary committee set up to review the constitution will complete its task and propose suitable amendments.
The PPP and the PML-N both agreed that dialogue is the best way forward.
The two parties also decided that the situation in Baluchistan needed to be addressed and the parliament should play its role in this regard.
Militancy and other problems facing the country were also discussed in the meeting.
