BANGALORE: India’s space agency says its first unmanned moon probe has malfunctioned and it may have to curtail the two-year mission.
The Chandrayaan-1, which costs $79 million, was launched in October to map the lunar surface and look for precious metals.
The chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation says the probe’s star censor has malfunctioned due to excessive radiation from the sun.
The probe’s launch saw India join the Asian space race in the footsteps of China.
